To make a terminal is one of the big projects of a model airport.
I’ve been building 5 terminals since I began my diorama, so I start to acquire some experience.
My 2 first ones were in heavy cardboard, but they didn’t look very attractive.
I then went into cardstock for several reasons :
– You can directly print your design and details on it
– It’s easier to handle than wood
– It’s thin so the edges remain discrete
– Cardstock is hard enough to make rigid structures
I think it’s a good material that lets you make a lot of various items.
And I recommend it for anyone planning to design and build a Terminal.
However, I understand it can be something hard, which may require some skills and experience.
That is why I provide a printable template of a terminal on my shop.
This can be useful for beginners who don’t know yet how to handle such a project, and want to acquire experience.
For people who just don’t have time for spending hours designing their own templates with details and correct dimensions.
For people ready to invest in a precision-engineered building and have a professional look

Hello,
My name is Bill Mitchell retired AMT for Trans World Airlines /American Airlines, for nearly 40 years. Most if it at the Kansas City Overhaul Facility. I too have a desire to build a diorama of this facility. I have Scale Model airplanes, however I don’t have all of the boxes they came in. So, will need to confirm the scale for some of the planes I’m working with.
Do you have any recommendations that might help me with my project? I do not plan for it to be very large, perhaps no larger than 24″x36″ at most.
